A Vietnam court has sentenced 54 people to jail (28/7/23) for receiving bribes including incident of charging $12,000 for a parent to send a teenager back from Europe during Covid-19.  Vietnam ex-Deputy Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs (To Anh Dung) is sentenced to 16 years jail for receiving $900,000 in bribes, Vietnam newspaper VTC reported 25 state officials receiving $7.4 million in bribes, and Vietnam ex-Secretary to Deputy Health Minister (Pham Trung Kien) received $1.8 million from 253 bribes over 11 months.  A businesswoman was sentenced to 7 years jail for bribing 8 officials.  In 2023 January, former Vietnam President Nguyen Xuan Phuc resigned as President (2021 to 2023) due to numerous corruption scandals.  Nguyen Xuan Phuc was Vietnam Prime Minister from 2016 to 2021 and Deputy Prime Minister from 2011 to 2016.  Vietnam has a GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of $366 billion and population of 97.4 million people.
