A Singapore court has sentenced Singapore citizen Kent Liu Kuei Liang (Age 33) to 12 weeks jail for selling a Rolls-Royce & a Mini-Cooper for $616,000 (S$830,000) belonging to his mother, selling the 2 cars without his mother’s permission & forging her signature to clear debts owing to nightclub dancers. The debts were incurred for tipping female dancers by buying flowers & sashes at a nightclub. Background: “The accused’s mother is Liu Shu Yu. At the material time, the accused’s mother was the owner of a Rolls Royce Dawn 6.6 V12 car bearing vehicular registration SNA7354L and a Mini Cooper SE car bearing vehicular registration SNF9258S (the “two cars”). Sometime around August 2022, the accused came into debt from buying flower garlands for female singers at “Diao Hua” clubs. The accused was desperate for money to settle his debts and decided to sell the two cars, which he knew belonged to his mother, at a car dealer. On 1 August 2022, the accused contacted Low Lye Seng (“Low”), a representative of a car dealer by the name of Autoart Singapore Pte Ltd (“Autoart”). The accused informed Low that he wanted to sell the two cars belonging to his mother. Low and the accused agreed that the Rolls Royce car would be sold for S$700,000 and the Mini Cooper car would be sold for S$130,000. The Sales and Purchase agreements for both cars were prepared by Autoart and sent to the accused via Whatsapp. According to the Sales and Purchase agreements, the two cars were to be sold to Autoart for a total of S$830,000. The accused lied to Low that his mother was out of town in Taiwan, when she was actually in Singapore. The accused had done this because he knew that this was the only way that he could get Low to believe that he is facilitating the sale of the two cars. The accused also informed Low that he would obtain his mother’s signatures on these sales agreements once she returns (sic). The accused then printed out the Sales and Purchase agreements and forged his mother’s signature in Chinese characters under the column “seller signature”, before sending them back to Low via Whatsapp. On 1 August 2022, in Singapore, the accused did forge a certain document, to wit, a Sale and Purchase agreement dated 1 August 2022 of a vehicle bearing registration number SNA7354L, by forging the signature of one Liu Shu Yu on the said document, with intent to enter into an express contract with Autoart Singapore Pte Ltd. On 1 August 2022, in Singapore, the accused did forge a certain document, to wit, a Sale and Purchase agreement dated 1 August 2022 of a vehicle bearing registration number SNF9258S, by forging the signature of one Liu Shu Yu on the said document, with intent to enter into an express contract with Autoart Singapore Pte Ltd. A representative of Autoart, Cheng Fu Kheong Francis (“Francis”), asked the accused for his mother’s phone number to confirm the sales of the two cars. The accused provided Francis the number “+886 [redacted]”. This number belonged to the accused’s friend “Lala”, who was based in Taiwan. The accused had requested Lala to help him answer a call from a representative of Autoart. After Francis called the number provided to him by the accused, Francis believed that the accused’s mother authorised the sale of the two cars. Francis informed Low accordingly. Low then authorised a deposit payment of S$100,000 for the Rolls Royce car and S$50,000 for the Mini Cooper car, sent to the accused via PayNow. On 16 August 2022, the accused (sic) mother lodged a police report against the accused as she believed that the accused had forged her signatures to sell her two cars without her consent. By virtue of the foregoing, the accused has committed two counts of the offence punishable under section 465 of the Penal Code 1871. The accused stands charged accordingly.” Singapore Court (22/3/24): The accused, Liu Kuei Liang @ Kent, a 33-year-old male Singapore citizen, pleaded guilty to the following charges (“the Charges”): 1) You… are charged that you, on 1 August 2022, in Singapore, did forge a certain document, to wit, a Sale and Purchase agreement dated 1 August 2022 of a vehicle bearing registration number SNA7354L, by forging the signature of one Liu Shu Yu on the said document, with intent to enter into an express contract with Autoart Singapore Pte Ltd, and you have thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 465 of the Penal Code 1871. 2) You…are charged that you, on 1 August 2022, in Singapore, did forge a certain document, to wit, a Sale and Purchase agreement dated 1 August 2022 of a vehicle bearing registration number SNF9258S, by forging the signature of one Liu Shu Yu on the said document, with intent to enter into an express contract with Autoart Singapore Pte Ltd, and you have thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 465 of the Penal Code 1871 … .
