Myanmar supreme court has failed to sell Aung San Suu Kyi’s lakeside villa in Yangon for $128 million in 4th auction. In 2024 January, Myanmar supreme has ordered the sale of Aung San Suu Kyi’s lakeside villa in Yangon with a $90 million floor price in auction on 20th March 2024. Aung San Suu Kyi elder brother Aung San Oo had filed a court appeal for half ownership of the family property. In 2021, Aung San Suu Kyi was arrested on 1st February 2021 in a coup and sentenced to 33 years in jail currently held in solitary confinement at Naypyitaw Prison. Aung San Suu Kyi was previously held under house arrest for 15 years till 2010 in the villa. Myanmar had gave the 1.9 acre land to mother of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, after Myanmar independence hero General Aung San (father of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi) was assassinated. The colonial-style house is at 54 University Avenue (Yangon’s Inya Lake). In 2022, the National Unity Government designated the villa a national heritage site.
