The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) & Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB) have announced the launch of the 2025 Green Fintech Competition focusing on 5 themes with solutions to be submitted by 6th June 2025. 5 winners (each theme) will present on stage & host an exhibition booth at 2025 Green Fintech Symposium Hong Kong in 2025 September, will receive support & investor networking from Institute of Sustainability & Technology (IST), and fast-track opportunity into incubation programs (Cyberport & HKSTP) with grants & support ranging from $12,800 (HKD 100,000) to $154,000 (HKD 1.2 million). Announcement (1/5/25): “The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today (9 May) the launch of the 2025 Green Fintech Competition, co-hosted with the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers, and supported by the Institute of Sustainability and Technology, the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, and Invest Hong Kong. Building on the success of the inaugural event in 2023 and reflecting latest market developments, the Competition focuses on five themes that highlight the opportunities for the banking sector and wider financial industry to leverage the power of green fintech: 1) Sustainable supply chain and small and medium-sized enterprises; 2) Accelerating climate risk modelling and analytics; 3) Carbon market analytics and technology; 4) Sustainable investing; and 5) Sustainable banking and financing products … … The Competition is an important part of the HKMA’s ongoing efforts to foster collaboration between the financial and technology sectors, build capacity for harnessing green fintech, and attract green fintech firms to expand their presence in Hong Kong. Firms from Hong Kong and around the world are invited to submit innovative green fintech solutions that tackle at least one of the above themes. The solutions should be submitted via the Competition website (link) by 6 June 2025. Solutions will be evaluated by a judging panel comprising industry leaders from diverse fields, including experts from the banking, investment, and technology industries, as well as professional associations and academia. Winners of the Competition will be invited to present and showcase their winning solutions at the 2025 Green Fintech Symposium, scheduled to take place on 12 September this year. As a key event of 2025 Hong Kong Green Week (link), the Symposium promises to bring together a gathering of distinguished industry leaders, innovators, and experts, providing winners with a unique opportunity to connect with key stakeholders, forge strategic partnerships, and unlock new business prospects, while also promoting and raising awareness of the latest green fintech solutions available in the market. Building on the success of the inaugural competition held in 2023, the 2025 Green Fintech Competition seeks to underscore the pivotal role of technology in addressing the pressing challenges of sustainable supply chains, climate risks, carbon markets, and sustainable investing and banking. The Competition also strives to foster collaboration between the financial and technology sectors, build capacity for harnessing green fintech, and attract green fintech firms to expand their presence in Hong Kong.
