Japan brokerages hack-accounts for fraudulent trading are now affecting mid-sized brokerages (Okasan Securities & Iwai Cosmo Securities) after 8 Japan largest brokerages reported unauthorized trades with $700 million fraudulent trades since 2025 February. In the latest update (2025 May), Japan Financial Services Agency had reported $2.1 billion fraudulent trades in 3,505 transactions from 2025 January to April. In 2025 April, Japan 8 largest brokerages including Nomura, SMBC Nikko Securities, Rakuten Securities, SBI Securities & Monex reported unauthorized trades with $700 million fraudulent trades since 2025 February. The trading fraud involved using hacked accounts to buy stocks with low liquidity to inflate stocks prices. Earlier in 2025 April, Japan largest brokerages Nomura, SMBC Nikko Securities & Monex reported unauthorized trades in customers accounts, and have issued warnings to customers of phishing emails stealing account numbers & passwords.
