Singapore car spare parts family business 2nd generation Sim Hoay Cheok (Age 80) Sim Foundation has donated $11.5 million (S$15 million) to Singapore Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to strengthen Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, with the medicine school library renamed to Sim Hoay Cheok – Sim Foundation Library. The Sim family first gift to NTU was to the endowment fund for Sim Yung Chong TCM Scholarship in 2013, and the 2nd gift was to NTU Sim Yung Chong Medical Scholarship in 2018. Sim Yung Chong (father of Sim Hoay Cheok) is the founder & 1st generation of the family business. Sim Hoay Cheok setup the Sim Foundation in 2018 for philanthropy & family legacy. Announcement (15/5/25): “NTU Singapore receives S$15 million gift from Sim Foundation to leverage AI in medical education and research. The Sim Foundation has pledged a gift of S$15 million to Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), which will bolster the University’s efforts in delivering transformative healthcare through education and research. For a start, the gift will strengthen NTU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine’s (LKCMedicine) capacity to deliver exceptional medical education and advance its research enterprise, by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine and technology to deliver better healthcare outcomes and develop meaningful medical innovations for patients. In recognition of the Foundation’s generosity, NTU held a ceremony to name the LKCMedicine medical library the “Sim Hoay Cheok – Sim Foundation Library”. Mr Sim Hoay Cheok and his family, together with NTU President Professor Ho Teck Hua, LKCMedicine Governing Board Chair Ms Chan Lai Fung, and LKCMedicine Dean Professor Joseph Sung attended the naming ceremony held today. The Sim Foundation was established by the Singaporean businessman in 2018 to involve his family in philanthropy. Much of Mr Sim’s giving is deeply motivated by the late Dr Lee Kong Chian, a pioneering philanthropist in Singapore known for his unwavering commitment to education.”
