The Hong Kong Exchange (HKEX) has hired ex-Morgan Stanley & HSBC Investment Bank Herbert Hui as Group CFO (9/6/25) succeeding Vanessa Lau who continues her role as COO. Announcement (19/5/25): “Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is pleased to announce today (Monday) the appointment of Mr Herbert Hui as Group Chief Financial Officer. Mr Hui joins the Group on 9 June 2025 and succeeds Vanessa Lau, who will continue in her role as HKEX Chief Operating Officer. In his new role, Mr Hui will have responsibility for the Group’s Financial, Treasury and Investor Relations functions. He will report to HKEX Chief Executive Officer, Bonnie Y Chan, and become a member of HKEX’s Management Committee … … Prior to joining HKEX, Mr Hui was a director and Group Financial Controller at Wheelock Properties (Hong Kong) Limited, and served as Finance Director and a member of the Executive Directorate of MTR Corporation Limited from 2016 to 2023, having previously worked at MTR as General Manager of Corporate Finance from 2004 to 2011. Mr Hui began his career at Morgan Stanley Asia and then joined HSBC Investment Banking Asia, later becoming its Co-Head of Corporate Finance Execution and Chief Operating Officer.”

Profile – Mr Hui has over 35 years of experience in financial management and corporate finance at various financial and other institutions. Prior to joining HKEX, Mr Hui was a Director and Group Financial Controller at Wheelock Properties (Hong Kong) Limited, and served as Finance Director and a member of the Executive Directorate of MTR Corporation Limited (“MTR”) from 2016 to 2023, having previously worked at MTR as General Manager of Corporate Finance from 2004 to 2011. Mr Hui began his career at Morgan Stanley Asia and then joined HSBC Investment Banking Asia later becoming its Co-Head of Corporate Finance Execution and Chief Operating Officer. He was previously Chief Financial Officer of Digital China Holdings Limited and K. Wah International Holdings Limited. Mr Hui is the chairman of the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Service of the HKSAR Government and a member of Honorary Advisory Panel of the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council. He is also an independent non-executive director of OCBC Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. Mr Hui holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Studies from City University Business School in London and a Master of Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a qualified Chartered Financial Analyst.
