Canada oil producer Strathcona has announced intent to make a hostile-takeover offer to buy Canada oil sands producer MEG Energy Corp for $4.25 billion in cash & stock deal representing +93% premium to closing price (15/5/25). Strathcona offer presented to the Board of MEG Energy Corp was rejected. Strathcona – Strathcona is one of North America’s fastest growing oil producers with operations focused on thermal oil and enhanced oil recovery. Strathcona is built on an innovative approach to growth achieved through the consolidation and development of long-life oil and gas assets. The Strathcona Shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: SCR). MEG Energy Corp – MEG is the leading pure-play in situ thermal oil producer in Canada.
