Japan mobile giant NTT Docomo has launched a tender offer to buy Japan internet bank SBI Sumishin Net Bank at $5.1 billion valuation, representing +49% to closing price (28/5/25). NTT Docomo will own 65.81% upon successful tender offer, with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp to continue to own 34.19%. SBI Sumishin Net Bank was founded in 2007 as a joint venture by SBI Holdings & Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank. NTT Docomo is the mobile business of Japan NTT (Nippon Telegraph & Telephone) with $91 billion market value. Profile – SBI Sumishin Net Bank is a specialized Internet bank jointly established by SBI Holdings and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank (Formerly Sumitomo Trust Bank) in September 2007. Since the establishment, SBI Sumishin Net Bank has steadily expanded its operations to become one of the leading Internet banks in Japan, with exceeding 4 million accounts, JPY 5.5 trillion in deposit and a cumulative total of more than JPY 6 trillion in mortgage loans.
