25th July | Hong Kong
United States non-profit healthcare enterprise UPMC (University of Pittsburg Medical Centre) has received a $65 million donation from real estate family Daniel Kamin, Carole Kamin & Kamin Family Foundation to UPMC Presbyterian. Announcement (22/7/25): “UPMC today announced a major philanthropic gift from Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin and the Kamin Family Foundation to UPMC Presbyterian that will further UPMC’s mission of delivering life changing medicine and pioneering innovative treatments that transform patient care. In appreciation for the Kamin family’s gift of $65 million and their longtime support of the hospital and the Pittsburgh community, the new UPMC Presbyterian bed tower, now under construction, will be named the Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Tower. Dan and Carole Kamin have been long-time supporters of UPMC both in philanthropy and volunteerism. For many years, Carole Kamin has served as President of the Ladies Hospital Aid Society, and she also serves on the boards of directors of UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside and the Eye and Ear Foundation. The Kamins supported the construction of the UPMC Mercy Pavilion where the reception lobby is named in their honor. The Kamin Tower, a 636-bed facility adjacent to the current UPMC Presbyterian, will feature leading-edge technology to improve the patient experience and transform the way health care is delivered in western Pennsylvania. Patients will benefit from modern, private rooms with natural light, easier access to services like imaging, and shared spaces for loved ones to spend time. Providers and staff will enjoy collaborative spaces and integrated systems to make providing care seamless. And the community will take advantage of spaces for local vendors, artists, farmers markets, and a full-service restaurant. Now approximately 70% complete, the tower is projected to open for patient care in early 2027. Kamin Family Foundation – Founded by Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin, the Kamin Family Foundation is the result of a journey that began with a family-owned business and evolved into becoming the 38th largest developer in the nation, with properties spanning 45 states and totaling nearly 17 million square feet. Daniel Kamin’s visionary leadership transformed the landscape of real estate, elevating the family’s legacy to national prominence. The foundation is a culmination of giving to projects including UPMC Mercy Vision Pavilion and The Carnegie Museums. The trajectory of the Kamin Family business has been driven by the leadership of Daniel G. Kamin, the Dealmaker, whose guidance has driven growth and creativity. Dan‘s passion for science and history serves as the cornerstone of his philanthropic vision. From his early years, Dan harbored a profound curiosity and appreciation for the wonders of the natural world. His fondness for the sciences originates from his early love for astronomy, cultivated during his visits to the Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science in his youth when he built his own telescope. The transformative gift to the Science Center will enable a 10-year strategic plan that will help fund investments in new exhibitions and programs as well as expanding the North Side campus. Carole L. Kamin was recruited to Pittsburgh as the first buyer for the Carnegie Museum of Art Store and then became buyer for the Natural History Museum Store. For decades, she served on the board of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Carnegie Museum Women’s Committee where she has been involved with the Holiday Trees Event for 20 years, chairing her own tree each year. She was introduced to UPMC and the needs of the local medical community through the Ladies Hospital Aid Society where she is currently President. Carole also serves as a community volunteer for numerous non-profits including Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Eye & Ear Foundation, Pittsburgh Festival Opera, and the National Society of Arts and Letters. Dan and Carole were recently recognized as Outstanding Philanthropists by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the Pittsburgh Business Times has recognized Carole with a 2025 Women of Influence Award. Dan and Carole’s commitment to community service and involvement in esteemed organizations underscore the foundation’s dedication to the sciences, education, history, arts, medical, and environmental sectors. Today, the Kamin Family Foundation stands as a testament to an enduring legacy, poised to make a meaningful difference in the Greater Pittsburgh Area and beyond.”
