United States asset manager Franklin Templeton ($1.7 trillion AUM) ex-emerging markets star fund manager Mark Mobius has died at age 89 (15/4/26). In 2018, Franklin Templeton announced Mark Mobius retirement from Franklin Templeton (31/1/2018). He held the role of Executive Chairman of Templeton Emerging Markets Group. In 1987, Mark Mobius joined Franklin Templeton as President of the Templeton Emerging Markets Fund, growing the fund from $100 million to $50 billion. Mark Mobius spent more than 40 years working in emerging markets all over the world and was hired by the late Sir John Templeton in 1987 to launch one of the first mutual funds dedicated to emerging markets. In 2018, Mark Mobius founded Mobius Capital Partners with his Templeton colleagues Carlos von Hardenberg and Greg Konieczny. The active investment manager focuses on one single and concentrated strategy centred around improving governance standards in emerging market companies. Mark Mobius – Dr. Mark Mobius is synonymous with emerging and frontier markets investing with a reputation as one of the most successful and influential money managers over the past 30 years. He is currently Chairman of Mobius Emerging Opportunities Fund. Dr. Mobius is widely known as a pioneer in emerging market investing. In 1987 he was appointed by Sir John Templeton to run one of the world’s first emerging market funds. Dr. Mobius went on to spend more than three decades at Franklin Templeton Investments, most recently as Executive Chairman of the Templeton Emerging Markets Group. Under his leadership, the group’s assets under management grew from US$100 million to a whopping US$50 billion with the successful launches of numerous investment funds focused on Asia, Latin America, Africa and Eastern Europe. Dr. Mobius has also contributed to developing international policies for emerging markets. He served on the World Bank’s Global Corporate Governance Forum as a member of the Private Sector Advisory Group and as co-chairman of its Investor Responsibility Task Force in 1999. He earned his Ph.D in Economics and Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1964. He has also studied at Boston University, University of Wisconsin, Syracuse University, Kyoto University and the University of New Mexico. Dr Mobius has won numerous industry awards and has authored 13 books, includingThe Inflation Myth and The Wonderful World of Deflation, which has gained international acclaim. In October 2022, World Economic Forum selected the book as one of the five must-read books on inflation.
