Former 49% owner of Latvia LPB Bank Mihails Ulmans & his associate Aleksandrs Babenko had been sentenced to 15 years in jail each for ordering the murder of lawyer Martins Bunkus in 2018 for whistleblowing money laundering to regulators in LPB Bank in 2016. Martins Bunkus was killed in his car in daytime by a AK 47 Kalashnikov rifle in 2018. Martins Bunkus had survived an assassination attempt in 2016. Mihails Ulmans & Aleksandrs Babenko had been alleged to offer €300,000 to kill Martins Bunkus. Killer Viktor Krivoshey was paid €70,000, and had been sentenced to jail for life. LPB Bank was renamed as Magnetiq Bank in 2023.
