The ex-JP Morgan APAC Investment Bank Chairman and China electric car giant XPeng ($19 billion market value) Vice-Chairman & Co-President Brian Gu Hongdi & his wife (Wenisa Ma) have bought a Hong Kong luxury property in Jardine’s Lookout for $22 million (HKD 171 million). Jardine’s Lookout is a high-end residential mountain area in Hong Kong Wan Chai named after Jardine Matheson conglomerate founder Jardine Matheson. XPeng ($19 billion market value) was founded in 2014 by Xia Heng (Henry Xia) & He Tao. XPeng Brian Gu Hongdi – Dr. Hongdi Brian Gu is our honorary vice chairman of our board of directors and co-president. Dr. Gu currently holds directorships in other members of the Group. Prior to joining the Group, Dr. Gu worked at J.P. Morgan Chase from 2004 to 2018 and held positions including managing director and chairman of J.P. Morgan Chase Asia Pacific Investment Bank. Dr. Gu previously served as a director of Uxin Limited, a company listed on the NASDAQ (symbol: UXIN) from June 2018 to June 2019. Dr. Gu received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Washington in August 1997, his master’s degree in business administration from Yale University in May 1999, and his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Oregon in June 1993. Wenisa Ma – Wenisa Ma is a Hong Kong-based philanthropist. Wenisa was born and raised in Taishan, Guangdong, China. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was 16 years old with the help of relatives who immigrated many years earlier. With only knowing her “ABCDs” at the age of 16, Wenisa managed to finish high school and obtain a degree in Accounting from University of Washington in 1997. After working in NYC as an accountant for several years, Wenisa relocated to Hong Kong with her family when her husband, Brian Gu, became the Chairman of JPMorgan Chase. Wenisa and her family have resided in Hong Kong since 2004. Brian and Wenisa are dedicated to improving the society through their active non-profit and philanthropic work. They are very thankful for the opportunities and aids that they received in the U.S. Without the scholarships they received, they would not be where they are today. They always remember their proud Chinese roots. Wenisa and Brian recognize that their current successes are related to the amazing opportunities and growth in China and the generosities of people they met in the U.S. We want to give back to society. I would love to take this opportunity to act as a bridge between the two countries that we love. We want to contribute in any way to help MOCA, Chinese Americans, and U.S.-China relations. Wenisa and Brian have three children. Jonathan, her eldest son, was a former MOCA intern and a first year at the University of Chicago. All of her children attend(ed) Chinese International School where Wenisa was the head of the PTA. Brian Gu is the CEO of Xpeng Motors.
