United States asset manager AllianceBernstein ($829 billion AUM) has announced the appointment Global Head of Institutions Michael Thompson as APAC CEO to succeed Ajai Kaul who will be retiring after 25 years at AllianceBernstein, and Taiwan Chairman & AllianceBernstein 28-year veteran Derek Yung appointed as Deputy APAC CEO.  Michael Thompson has 22 years of asset management industry experience at AllianceBernstein, PIMCO, Intermediate Capital Group & Western Asset Management.  In 2024 November, AllianceBernstein hired ex-BlackRock veteran & MetLife Brent Kao as Head of Asia ex-Japan Institutions.  Brent Kao has more than 21 years of financial & asset management industry experience at MetLife Investment Management, BlackRock, Barclays, Citigroup & Fubon.  Brent Kao joins AllianceBernstein from MetLife Investment Management (Head of Institutional Client Group Asia ex Japan), and prior was with BlackRock for 12 years holding senior roles including Head of Asia Official Institutions Group, Head of Hong Kong & Taiwan Institutional Business, Head of Asia ex-Japan Insurance Business, Head of Family Office & Fund of Funds and Head of Taiwan Institutional Business.
