Qatar first independent venture capital firm Rasmal Ventures ($30 million AUM) has invested $2 million into Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing CK Asset Holdings-backed warehouse tech & AI startup Nexx co-founded by ex-JP Morgan Securities China CEO Houston Huang. In 2025 February, Rasmal Ventures secured strategic funding from Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) as part of $1 billion Fund of Funds program. The flagship Rasmal Innovation Fund I launched in June 2024 has target $100 million fund size. Houston Huang – Houston Huang is the Chairman of PEC International Group Limited based in Hong Kong. He is also the founder and Chairman of Nexx Global Limited, Asia’s first WaaS (Warehouse as a Service) logistics technology platform. Additionally, he serves as the co-Chairman and chief advisor of DaVinci Motor, a leading Chinese automaker of high-performance electric motor vehicles. Houston is a prolific investment banking professional with over 30 years of experience at the forefront of several well-known privatization, fundraising, and M&A (mergers and acquisitions) projects in multiple industries in China. He has spearheaded many franchise and milestone transactions which were the first-of-their-kind in the international capital market. Houston was chief executive officer and head of investment banking at JP Morgan Securities China for seven years and before that, spent five years at Goldman Sachs where he was the Head of the China Diversified Industrial Group. Prior to this, Houston was senior managing director at China International Capital Corporation for over a decade and was responsible for their project financing and investment banking business. He served as head of their human resources committee, business development committee and European investment banking department. Houston is registered with the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in the United Kingdom, the Securities and Futures Commissions (SFS) in Hong Kong, and Chinese Securities Regulatory Committee (CSRC) in China. He attained his certification from the Private Equity Program of the Oxford Said Business School. Rasmal Ventures – Rasmal Ventures is the first independent VC fund established in Qatar with a regional presence, investing in tech startups across the wider MENA region and supporting top entrepreneurs, including international companies expanding into this market. We invest in technology-focused startups across the MENA region. Our sweet spot is Series A and series B stage startups. We also invest selectively at Pre-Series A and later stages. We are sector agnostic, but we have certain specific industry competencies and areas of interest such as fintech, B2B SaaS, supply chain logistics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
