United States asset manager Barings ($470 billion AUM) has appointed 17-year veteran Alastair Wright as Head of Asia Pacific (1/1/26) succeeding Duncan Robertson who is retiring after 17 years at Barings, and Eric Jan appointed as Head of Great China & Southeast Asia and governance responsibilities for India. Announcement (11/11/25): “Barings, one of the world’s leading investment managers, today announced the appointment of Alastair Wright as Head of Asia Pacific (APAC), effective January 2026. Alastair Wright succeeds Duncan Robertson, who will retire after 17 years of distinguished service with the firm. During his tenure, Duncan has played a pivotal role in expanding Barings’ presence and capabilities across the region. The firm extends its deepest gratitude for his leadership and dedication. As the new Head of APAC, Alastair will oversee Barings’ strategic direction and operations across the region, building on the strong foundation established by Duncan. Alastair brings extensive experience from his role as Head of APAC Real Estate and is well-positioned to lead Barings into its next phase of growth in Asia Pacific. In conjunction with this transition, Eric Jan will assume the expanded role of Head of Greater China and Southeast Asia, overseeing Barings’ business in China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as governance responsibilities for Barings India. Eric will report directly to Alastair. This leadership transition reflects Barings’ commitment to succession planning and regional alignment, ensuring continued growth and excellence across Asia Pacific.” In 2024 December, Barings hired M&G Investments Joseph Wong as Head of Wealth Distribution for Hong Kong & Singapore. Joseph Wong has 19 years of asset management industry experience including at M&G Investments, Franklin Templeton, Superfund Financial & AIA.

Barings Incoming Head of APAC, Alastair Wright – Alastair Wright serves as the Head of APAC Real Estate for Barings. He is also an Executive Director of Barings Real Estate Australia (formerly known as Altis Property Partners (Altis), which was acquired by Barings in 2022). Alastair is one of the founders of Altis and has over 26 years of experience in investment management, property, accounting and finance. His responsibilities include accounting, finance, cash management, fund reporting, risk management and compliance. Prior to establishing Altis in 2008, Alastair was the fund manager for the ICA Property Development Funds series at ICA Property Group and Valad. Prior to this, he held a variety of positions at Macquarie Bank and PricewaterhouseCoopers, including funds management, risk, compliance and audit. Alastair holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto in Canada and is a chartered accountant.
