United States COVID-19 vaccine maker & biotech company Moderna ($22 billion market value) has announced to pay $2.25 billion in COVID-19 vaccine settlement to Arbutus & Genevant Sciences to resolve all patent infringement disputes of Moderna using their lipid nanoparticle delivery technology in COVID-19 vaccines. The $2.25 billion settlement comprises of $950 million payment by 2026 July & up to $1.3 billion payment subject to outcome of Moderna appeal. In 2023 May, Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel received $393 million in total salary in 2022, and owns at least $2.8 billion of Moderna shares. Earlier in 2023, Stéphane Bancel had announced that he will be donating proceeds of selling Moderna shares to charity. Stéphane Bancel is Moderna CEO since 2011. Moderna has a market capitalization of around $54 billion (5/5/23). In 2021 September, Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel forecasts COVID-19 vaccines to be sufficient for all human population of 7.4 billion people by mid-2022. In an interview with a Swiss newspaper, Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel also highlighted “those who do not get vaccinated will immunise naturally because the Delta variant is so contagious.” In 2021, Moderna stock price increased 387% in 2021 ($111 to $430, 1/1/21 to 24/9/21) and the market capitalization of Moderna is now at $173 billion (24/9/21).
