UK London-based litigation funding provider Therium Capital Management is fighting a conspiracy lawsuit in Jersey court for role in now-annulled $14.9 billion awarded in 2022 (France Arbitration Court) to the Philippines heirs of Sultan of Sulu (Malaysia). In 2025 December, a France appeal court (Paris Court of Appeal) annulled the $14.9 billion awarded in 2022 (France Arbitration Court) to the Philippines heirs of Sultan of Sulu (Malaysia). In 1878, British North Borneo Company (BNBC) signed a deal with annual fee ($1,000) to use land belonging to Sultan of Sulu (in Philippines & Malaysia) on Borneo Island. In 1963, Malaysia inherited British North Borneo Company (BNBC) deal in 1963, and paid annual fee ($1,000) to the heirs of Sultan of Sulu until the 2013 military conflict in Lahad Datu allegedly sent by an heir of Sultan of Sulu to reclaim territory. France Appeal Court also ordered the heirs to pay $232,000 (€200,000) to the Malaysia government.
