Australia sovereign wealth fund Future Fund Management Agency ($241 billion AUM) has appointed Pendal Group Australia ex-CEO & First State Super ex-CIO Richard Brandweiner as Chief Investment Officer (1/7/26) to succeed interim CIO Hugh MurrayAnnouncement (23/4/26): “The Future Fund Management Agency (Agency) today announced the appointment of Richard Brandweiner as Chief Investment Officer.  Richard was previously Chief Executive Officer of Pendal Group, Australia and prior to that Chief Investment Officer at First State Super. His other experience includes senior investment roles with Perpetual and, more recently, a variety of non-executive roles.  The appointment follows a global search process in line with Australian Public Service requirements.  Richard starts his new role on 1 July 2026 and will also join the Agency’s Senior Leadership Team.  Hugh Murray, the Future Fund’s Deputy Chief Investment Officer, will continue as interim Chief Investment Officer until Richard starts his new role.”  Richard Brandweiner – Richard Brandweiner has spent over thirty years working across all asset classes in the investment management industry. During his executive career he contributed to a number of the 2 industry’s professional bodies including FSC and ASFA and was President of the CFA Society of Sydney.   In recent years, Richard has served on a number of boards and investment committees. 7th January 2025 – Australia sovereign wealth fund Future Fund has announced new mandate to consider national priorities for investment decisions including clean energy, housing & infrastructure projects.  The benchmark rate of return remains at +4% to 5% above inflation.  In 2024 September, Australia Future Fund reported $151 billion (AUD 225 billion) AUM & +9.1% annual return in the last 12 months (Ending 2024 June), +6.7% annual return in last 5 years, +8.3% annual return in last 10 years, with mandate target return at 6.9% or CPI +4% to +5% per year return.  Future Fund Portfolio Allocation – Australia Equity 10.3%, Global Equities 27%, Private Equity 14.5%, Property 5.4%, Infrastructure & Timberland 9.9%, Credit 11%, Alternatives 15.2%, Cash 6.7%.
