Singapore private equity firm RRJ Capital has raised $1.1 billion for its first APAC private credit fund (RRJ Structured Hybrid Opportunity Fund) targeting 16% return. RRJ Capital was founded in 2011 by Richard Ong (Goldman Sachs Co-Head Asia ex- Japan Investment Banking, President of Goldman Sachs Singapore, Founder & CEO of HOPU Fund), with Co-Chairman & Co-CEO Charles Ong joining in 2012 (Temasek Chief Investment Officer & Chief Strategy Officer, Seatown Holdings CEO, Deutsche Bank Head of M&A ex-Japan Asia, Deutsche Bank Head of Corporate Finance for South East Asia). Richard Ong & Charles Ong are brothers. Temasek is a Limited Partner (Investor) in RRJ Capital. RRJ Capital – Founded in March 2011, RRJ Capital (“RRJ”) is a global investment firm with strategic focus in key industries, including healthcare, financial institutions, technology, and logistics. Headquartered in Singapore, RRJ’s portfolio companies are diversified across Asia Pacific, Europe and the United States. Chairman & CEO Richard Ong – Prior to starting RRJ, Richard was founder and CEO of HOPU Fund, a US$2.5 billion private equity fund started in May 2008 in Beijing. Prior to 2008, Richard had a 15 years career with Goldman Sachs. Based in Beijing, he was Partner and Co-Head Asia Ex Japan Investment Banking. Richard was a member of Goldman Sachs Asian Management Committee. Prior to October 2006, Richard was the President of Goldman Sachs Singapore. Co-Chairman & Co-CEO Charles Ong – Prior to joining RRJ in 2012, Charles was with Temasek Holdings for 10 years, where he held various positions including Chief Investment Officer and Chief Strategy Officer. From 2009 to 2011, he was Chief Executive Officer of Seatown Holdings International, a global investment subsidiary of Temasek Holdings. Charles was with Deutsche Bank from 1998 to 2002, where he oversaw their investment banking business in South-East Asia. He started his career with Lazard Freres & Co, New York in 1989 and he relocated to Singapore in 1995 to help start Lazard’s operations in Asia. Charles was a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.Sc.) and he holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
