The largest SWF is Social Security Trust Fund, United States with AUM of $2,789.5 trillion. It was founded in Year 1935.

 

No. 2 What is the Smallest SWF?

The smallest SWF on the list is Fondo de ahorro de panama, Panama with AUM of $1.41 billion.  It was founded in Year 2012.

 

No. 3 Which is the Oldest SWF?





The oldest SWF is CalPERS, United States founded in 1932, with AUM of $304.1 billion. CalPERS stands for California Public Employees’ Retirement System.

Conventionally, Sovereign Wealth Funds manage assets of the nation from budget surplus, reserves and assets while Pension Funds manage savings and retirements money from employees or citizens.

Both Sovereign Wealth Funds and Pension Funds manage large pool of assets and often look for the same investment opportunities.  Increasingly, they adopt the same investment philosophy and some countries or states have overlapped the asset management and operations of SWFs and PFs.
