Newton Investment Manager (BNY Mellon) Creates New Management Structure, New CIO
Newton Investment Management managing A$90 billion and part of BNY Mellon Investment Management, has introduced a new management structure.
Newton IM’s management team will include a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Investment Officer (new), Chief Operating Officer, Chief Risk Officer and Chief Commercial Officer.

The firm has created the new role of Chief Investment Officer, filled by Curt Custard and will join Newton IM’s Board. He was from UBS Asset Management, where he was group managing director and head of investment solutions in London and Chicago and head of multi-asset at Schroders Investment Management.
Julian Lyne, currently Global Head of Distribution, has been promoted to take on the expanded role as Chief Commercial Officer, which will include responsibility for the firm’s client relationship area. Andrew Downs and James Helby remain as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Risk Officer respectively.
“This new management structure, including the appointment of a Chief Investment Officer, is being announced as Newton IM prepares to grow its global footprint,” commented Hanneke Smits, Chief Executive Officer of Newton IM. “It builds on our investment philosophy and process and reflects the Board’s, including my own, commitment to reinforcing governance for the next stage of growth.
