Hong Kong Exchange (HKEX) has announced new senior management appointments, with Bonnie Chan joining Wilfred Yiu as HKEX Co-Chief Operating Officer (Co-COO), Katherine Ng appointed as Head of Listing, Glenda So appointed as Group Head of Emerging Business & FIC, and London Metal Exchange (LME) CEO Matthew Chamberlain taking on additional role as HKEX Group Head of Commodities (all appointments effective 1st February 2023).  Bonnie Chan and Wilfred Yiu as Co-COO will report to HKEX CEO Nicolas Aguzin, with Bonnie Chan overseeing the Chief China Economist’s Office, Corporate Communications, Group Strategy, Human Resources, Mainland Development and LME Clear.  Wilfred Yiu as Co-COO and Head of Equities, will continue to oversee the operation of cash, derivatives, clearing & depository businesses, and as the Chief Executive of both The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Futures Exchange.  Katherine Ng as Head of Listing had joined HKEX in 2013 (Head of Policy & Secretariat Services, Listing Division), will report to HKEX CEO Nicolas Aguzin and become a member of HKEX Management Committee.  Glenda So as Group Head of Emerging Business & FIC, will oversee Market Policy & Development, in addition to her current role leading Fixed Income & Currency Markets, Data & Connectivity, Digital Assets & Carbon/ESG Markets.  London Metal Exchange (LME) CEO Matthew Chamberlain as new Group Head of Commodities, will be responsible for all HKEX commodities business, including the Qianhai Mercantile Exchange & Global Commodities Product Development.  See below for profile of Bonnie Chan, Wilfred Yiu & Katherine Ng.

16th Jan 2023 – As at the date of this announcement, HKEX’s Board of Directors comprises 12 Independent Non-executive Directors, namely Mrs Laura May-Lung CHA (Chairman), Mr Nicholas Charles ALLEN,Mr Apurv BAGRI, Mr CHEAH Cheng Hye, Ms CHEUNG Ming Ming, Anna, Mrs CHOW WOO Mo Fong, Susan, Mr Rafael GIL-TIENDA, Mr HUNG Pi Cheng, Benjamin, Ms LEUNG Nisa Bernice Wing-Yu, Mr LEUNG Pak Hon, Hugo, Mr YIU Kin Wah, Stephen and Mr ZHANG Yichen, and one Executive Director, Mr Alejandro Nicolas AGUZIN, who is also the Chief Executive of HKEX. 

The appointments of Ms Chan and Mr Yiu as Co-COOs have been approved by the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Commission.

I am delighted to appoint Bonnie as Co-COO, which will allow HKEX to better leverage her extensive industry experience as well as her credibility and strong stakeholder relationships. Together with Wilfred’s deep knowledge of our markets and those across our region, their combined skills will continue to be invaluable to us as we execute on the broad range of operational and strategic projects currently in train.

I am also delighted to appoint Katherine as Head of Listing. She is a highly respected practitioner and has played a major role in both overseeing the work of the Listing Division and in the execution of a number of its most significant initiatives in recent years. Bonnie Chan Yiting, HKEX Co-Chief Operating Officer

HKEX Bonnie Chan

Bonnie Chan (Age 53) who has extensive regulatory and operations experience in managing the HKEX Listing Division, will oversee the Chief China Economist’s Office, Corporate Communications, Group Strategy, Human Resources, Mainland Development and LME Clear Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of HKEX. 

Bonnie has over 25 years of experience in legal and financial services. She joined HKEX as Head of Listing in January 2020. Prior to joining HKEX, she was a partner of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP from 2010 to 2019, and served as the Head of IPO Transactions Department of the Listing Division of HKEX from 2007 to 2010.  Bonnie has been a member of the Board of Inland Revenue of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region since 2017 and an ex-officio member of the Standing Committee on Company Law Reform since 2020. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School. 

 

Wilfred Yiu Ka Yan, HKEX Co-Chief Operating Officer

Wilfred Yiu (Age 53), Co-Chief Operating Officer and Head of Equities, will continue to be responsible for overseeing the operation of the cash and derivatives trading business and the clearing and depository business of HKEX. Alongside this appointment, Wilfred will continue to hold positions as the Chief Executive of both The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited and Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited, which are direct wholly-owned subsidiaries of HKEX.  

Wilfred has over 25 years’ experience in international capital markets. He joined HKEX in April 2019 and became sole Chief Operating Officer of HKEX on 26 November 2022. Prior to joining HKEX, he was Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Beijing Gao Hua Securities Company Limited, a strategic partner of Goldman Sachs, and also Chairman of Qian Kun Futures Co Ltd. Prior to this, Wilfred was Managing Director, FICC (fixed income, currency and commodities) at Goldman Sachs.  He has been a member of the Securities Compensation Fund Committee of the SFC since 2020. Wilfred holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Washington, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Stanford University, and a Master of Business Administration from Stern School of Business, New York University. 

 

Katherine Ng, HKEX Head of Listing

Katherine Ng (Age 49), joined HKEX in 2013 and has been Head of Policy, Listing Division since she joined. Prior to joining HKEX, she served as Political Assistant to the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from 2008 to 2012.  

Katherine holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Law from the University of Cambridge.
