The Hong Kong Securities & Futures Commission (SFC) has issued a warning to the public of fake voice message calls pretending to be from the Hong Kong SFC, requiring the person to key information on the phone to resolve stock trading irregularities. Hong Kong SFC – The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) is an independent statutory body set up in 1989 to regulate Hong Kong’s securities and futures markets. We derive our investigative, remedial and disciplinary powers from the Securities and Futures Ordinance (SFO) and subsidiary legislation. Operationally independent of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, we are funded mainly by transaction levies and licensing fees. Hong Kong SFC (23/4/24): “The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) today urges the public to beware of bogus calls claiming to come from a financial regulator. In a recent case, which the SFC has reported to the Police, a member of the public received a bogus voice message call claiming the regulator had found irregularities in the recipient’s stock trading and requiring input of more information through the phone system. The SFC wishes to reiterate that these calls and messages are fraudulent. The SFC does not provide any financial services nor contact the general public for personal financial matters. Members of the public should stay alert against scam calls and messages purportedly from the SFC, and refrain from sending personal information or money if requested to do so. In case of doubt, please contact the SFC by email ([email protected]).”
