Switzerland federal pension fund PUBLICA ($56 billion AUM) with 12 pension plans is planning to invest $1.1 billion in private credit direct lending investment. Currently, PUBLICA has 9% allocation to private debt investments in open pension plans, and 3% allocation to private debt investments in closed pension plan. PUBLICA – The Swiss Federal Pension Fund PUBLICA is an independent pension institution established under public law. It is organised as a collective institution currently comprising twelve pension plans. PUBLICA serves around 70,000 active members and around 42,000 pension recipients from the Federal Administration, the ETH Domain and other decentralised administrative units as well as around 70 other organisations that are closely associated with the Confederation or fulfil a public task on behalf of the Confederation, a canton or a commune. With total assets currently standing at CHF 44,9 billion as at 31 December 2025 it is one of the largest pension funds in Switzerland. Its highest management and strategic body is the PUBLICA Board of Directors. Investment Strategy – We have a very long-term investment horizon. This gives us access to a wide investment universe and enables us to withstand short-term fluctuations on the capital markets. The strategic asset allocation defines the asset classes we invest pension capital in, and what proportion we invest in each. The most important asset classes are shares, bonds, real estate, precious metals and infrastructure projects. PUBLICA has eleven open and one closed pension plans. The open plans are made up of active members and pension recipients. The closed plan contains only pension recipients, which means it is less able to absorb risks. For this reason, there is one strategic asset allocation for the open pension plans and another for the closed one.
