United States apartment REIT AvalonBay Communities ($25.9 billion market value) has announced merger with United States apartment REIT Equity Residential ($25.5 billion market value) in all-share merger (AvalonBay Communities 51.2% & Equity Residential 48.8%) to create a $52 billion combined apartment REIT.  AvalonBay Communities was formed in 1998 from the merger of Bay Communities & Avalon Properties. AvalonBay Communities current market value at $25.9 billion, share price +2.8% YTD, -7.8% last 12 months & -10.2% last 5 years. Equity Residential was founded in 1967 by Sam Zell & Robert Lurie. Equity Residential current market value at $25.5 billion, share price +6.7% YTD, -3.5% last 12 months & -14.5% last 5 years.  AvalonBay Communities – AvalonBay Communities, Inc. is committed to creating a better way to live.
