India renewable energy company Aditya Birla Renewables has announced to buy India renewable energy platform Sprng Energy for $1.8 billion from UK oil giant Shell ($244 billion market value) in all-cash deal. Sprng Energy was founded in 2017 by Actis. Sprng Energy – Sprng Energy, a member of the Shell Group, is a renewable energy platform operating in India since February 2017, having cumulative contracted capacity of 3.05GWp, across India, of which 2.2GWp is operational. Aditya Birla Renewables – Aditya Birla Group is making strides in the renewable energy sector through its fast-growing renewable energy company, Aditya Birla Renewables. We have a pan-India ~4.3 GW portfolio with a high quality, diversified offtake base across 10 states. Its expertise spans solar, wind, solar + wind, floating solar, and battery storage. Founded in 2011, Aditya Birla Renewables has commissioned several clean energy projects for government utilities as well as commercial and industrial (C&I) power buyers. In 2011, it was among India’s first renewable energy companies to answer the call of the Jawaharlal Nehru Solar Mission, which flagged off the country’s green energy journey. Today, it is leading the change towards clean, affordable, and sustainable energy through our partnerships with the public sector. Government utilities, including those in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Gujarat, are among its customers. Shell – Shell is a global group of energy and petrochemical companies, employing 96,000 people across 70+ countries. We serve around 1 million commercial and industrial customers, and around 33 million customers daily at our Shell-branded retail service stations.
