France energy management and automation giant Schneider Electric ($182 billion market value) has announced to buy Norway industrial data and AI software company Cognite for $3.1 billion from Norway industrial investment company Aker ($9.2 billion market value) in all-cash deal. Cognite was founded in 2017 as a spinout from Aker.  Cognite – Cognite is a leading provider of industrial data and AI software, with a cloud-native platform that combines a unified industrial data model with agentic AI capabilities, enabling customers to operationalise AI directly within plant operations, asset management and engineering workflows. Founded in 2017 in Oslo as a spinout from Aker, Cognite generated more than $170 million in revenue in 2025 with 36% growth in annual recurring revenue bookings, and employs more than 800 people across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. Schneider Electric – Schneider Electric is a global energy technology leader, driving efficiency and sustainability by electrifying, automating, and digitalizing industries, businesses, and homes.
